Egypt Geography Topic
We have been looking
at settlements on the Nile in Egypt and the reason for their existence.
We researched the use of boats in the upper Nile at Aswan Dam and
designed our own group Feluccas. They are designed to carry cargo up and
down the Nile.
Our Felucca
Challenge was to build a boat that would float and be able to hold 20
individual 1 gram weights.
We were very successful and all managed to pass our challenge.
We really enjoyed thinking about making them buoyant and
reliable.
We also researched
Cairo as a main tourist attraction and a city based at the bottom of the
Nile Delta. We created a
physical map of Egypt and land use maps of Aswan, Cairo and Suez.
We researched Hydro Electric power in Scotland and
Egypt, investigated how a hydro electric power plant works and created a
map of all the power stations on Scotland. We were very surprised how
many renewable ones we have!
We also researched
the six different climate zones and made bar charts to show the average
monthly rainfall and sunshine in each zone.
We drew world maps showing where each zone was in the world.
Potatoes
Topic
We are taking part
in Count and Grow this year and had a visit from Carol at the Royal
Highland Educational Trust and Willie Officer (a local farmer) who
helped us plant our potatoes. We have decided to make potato growing our
new topic.
